Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy applies to all personal information collected by ScorePath ("we", "us", "our") via the website located at www.scorepath.com.au and our associated online learning platform (the "Service").
1. What information do we collect?
We may collect personal information including: your name, email address, postal address, phone number, date of birth, payment and billing details, course enrolment and progress records (including essays, practice question responses, and skill profile data), login credentials, IP address, device and browser information, and any other information you voluntarily provide through forms, surveys, or when communicating with us.
Where our Service is used by a student under the age of 18, the account is registered, subscribed to, and controlled by that student's parent or legal guardian. See Section 7 (Children's Privacy) below.
2. Types of information
The Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) defines Personal Information as information or an opinion about an identified individual, or an individual who is reasonably identifiable, whether true or not, and whether recorded in material form or not.
Sensitive Information (racial/ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs, health information, etc.) is not something we intentionally collect through the Service. Because students submit open-ended written responses (essays and practice answers), it is possible that a student may incidentally disclose information of this nature within their own writing. We do not use or process such incidentally-disclosed content for any purpose other than generating feedback on the submission itself.
3. How we collect your Personal Information
(a) We collect Personal Information whenever you input it into the Service (e.g. account registration, essay submissions, practice responses).
(b) We may collect cookies and similar technologies to recognise returning visitors and improve your experience.
(c) Where reasonable and practicable, we collect Personal Information directly from you (the parent/guardian) or from the student user under your account.
4. Purpose of collection
(a) We collect Personal Information to operate the Service: generating feedback on student writing and practice responses, tracking skill progress (Skill Profile), providing parent-facing progress reports, and processing payments.
(b) We disclose Personal Information only to the service providers described in Section 6 below, who assist us in operating the Service.
(c) By using the Service, you may receive service-related communications (e.g. account, billing, progress updates). Marketing communications, if any, will always include an unsubscribe option. We do not use sensitive information for marketing purposes.
5. Student Content & Marking Technology
Essays and practice responses submitted by students are transmitted securely to our marking technology provider for the sole purpose of generating feedback, scores, and skill diagnostics on that specific submission.
We do not share student-submitted content with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes. Based on our marking technology provider's published commercial terms as at the time of writing, content submitted via their commercial service is not used to train or improve their general-purpose models.
6. Third-Party Service Providers & Overseas Transfer
We use a small number of third-party service providers — including cloud hosting and database infrastructure, payment processing, and marking technology — to operate ScorePath. Each processes personal information only to the extent necessary to provide their respective service to us.
As at the time of writing, the overseas jurisdictions in which these service providers operate infrastructure that processes or stores your Personal Information are: Singapore and the United States. As a result, your Personal Information, including student content, is transferred outside Australia as a normal part of operating the Service — not only upon your request. We will update this section if the jurisdictions involved change.
Payments are processed by our third-party payment processor; ScorePath does not store your full card details, which are handled directly by the payment processor in accordance with PCI-DSS standards.
We take reasonable steps to ensure these overseas recipients handle your information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles. At the request of a regulator or as required by law, we can provide the specific names of our service providers on a confidential basis.
7. Children's Privacy & Parental Consent
ScorePath's practice and marking Services are designed for use by students who may be under the age of 18. Accordingly:
- Account registration and subscription purchase must be completed by a parent or legal guardian, who confirms this at the point of registration.
- The parent/guardian remains the account holder and is responsible for their child's use of the Service under that account.
- We do not knowingly collect Personal Information directly from a child without the involvement of a parent or guardian account holder.
8. Data Retention & Deletion
We retain different categories of information for different periods, depending on their purpose:
- Payment and billing records are retained for up to 7 years to meet our financial record-keeping obligations.
- Student essay content, practice responses, and skill profile data will be deleted or de-identified within 6 months of account cancellation, following internal review, or earlier upon your written request to hello@scorepath.com.au — whichever comes first.
- Deleted data may persist in routine system backups for a limited period before being permanently removed as part of our normal backup cycle.
9. Data Export
You may request a PDF export of any individual essay report submitted through the Service, available on demand from within your account.
10. Security, Access and Correction
We store your Personal Information in a way that reasonably protects it from unauthorised access, misuse, modification or disclosure, using industry-standard security measures for data in transit and at rest.
The Australian Privacy Principles permit you to obtain access to the Personal Information we hold about you (APP 12) and to correct inaccurate Personal Information (APP 13), subject to certain exceptions. To request access or correction, please contact us at hello@scorepath.com.au.
11. Complaint Procedure
If you have a complaint concerning how we handle your Personal Information, please contact us at hello@scorepath.com.au. All complaints will be considered by ScorePath's Privacy Officer, and we may seek further information from you to clarify your concerns. If we agree that your complaint is well founded, we will, in consultation with you, take appropriate steps to rectify the problem. If you remain dissatisfied with the outcome, you may refer the matter to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
